EICR intervals
Five years is a common recommended commercial EICR interval, not a universal legal deadline. The interval depends on condition, use, risk, previous findings and any specific legal, licensing or insurer requirements. Some premises need earlier inspection.
Classification codes
- C1
- Danger is present.
- C2
- Potentially dangerous.
- FI
- Further investigation is needed without delay.
- C3
- Improvement recommended. It does not make the report unsatisfactory on its own.
C1, C2 and FI make an EICR unsatisfactory.
Portable equipment
Portable-equipment inspection and testing intervals are risk based. Item identification and results are included in our agreed service.
Rented dwellings
Rented dwellings have separate rules. For properties covered by England’s private and social rented sector regulations, fixed-wiring checks are required at least every five years or sooner if the report specifies. Read the government guidance for scope, transitional dates and exceptions. For a home or a rental in West or North Yorkshire, see House Calls for EICR prices.
